Meet John

Let’s start off by learning a bit more about your life prior to Pega. Where are you from originally and what is your educational background?
Previously, I served in the US Navy for four years and was responsible for leading a group of 20 members in the safe and proper operation and execution of all daily activities within the workplace. I had always been interested in computers and becoming a software developer. The problem for me was that it’s difficult to get into this field without a degree or extensive experience. My previous experience in the Navy was in the industrial field so I wasn’t confident that I had the proper training to become a developer.

What motivated you to learn how to use Pega?
It was really the opportunity provided by LEGERITY that was the catalyst for my interest in Pega.  They introduced me to Pega and then gave me the tools to be successful in a job I like doing. The LEGERITY team provided me excellent training from day one, helped me achieve CSA certification and then provided me with job placement to gain experience.

How has Pega shaped or impacted your career?
I always felt like I just needed someone to take a chance on me so that I could start the next chapter of my career as a developer. LEGERITY gave me that opportunity. They were looking for people with the willingness to work hard and learn the platform.

Without learning Pega, I wouldn’t be on this incredible career path. Now other people view me as a knowledgeable software developer because of my Pega background.  I’m confident that career-wise I want to continue to grow as a Pega developer. My next objective is branch out into the robotics side of Pega and also to eventually earn my CSSA.

What would you say is your proudest accomplishment as a Pega developer?
I really enjoyed building and developing a Pega solution for Durable Medical Equipment that resulted in a total savings value of $7,000,000 for the company I support. Through my Pega expertise, I was responsible for taking the lead on a quick resolution of patient liability code issues that ultimately resulted in the prevention of monthly fines of $10,000 per month.

What message or advice would you give to anyone who is considering a career as a Pega Developer?
My only advice would be to give it a try. People can be hesitant to take that leap of faith, but what do you have to lose? Try it, learn the software. It’s really impressive and powerful! For people who like learning and challenging themselves, you will never run out of things to explore within Pega.
