Optimizing Customer Value in the Contact Center

Let’s begin with the story of your Pega journey - What motivated you to learn how to use the Pega platform?
Coming from an operations background, I was keen to understand the technology we used and have the opportunity to tackle the operational challenges we had by translating our complex procedures into colleague journeys and delivering value to our customers through engagement and automation.

How has Pega shaped or impacted your career?
I now run a team of 30 engineers and would never have been in this position without my background working on the Pega platform. Working on Pega technology has created opportunities for me to deliver real-world results quickly resulting in internal exposure and experience.

"From personal experience, developers who are willing to gain a deep understanding of the operational processes and challenges are likely to have a fantastic career ahead of them."

As a Pega developer, what accomplishment are you most proud of?
Designing and building my first solo application in 2011, up until then I was working on enhancing and supporting a pre-established platform.
More recently, my team managed to consume and deploy Pega 8.2 onto AWS and build a concept 'case type' solution on-top of the Smart Investigate framework within one week of GA release.

What message or advice would you give to anyone who is considering a career as a Pega Developer?
Don’t feel like you need to have a background in software development to become a good Pega developer. The technology and training available makes it really accessible for operational users to transfer their career to a technical track.

Once you start a Pega career, don’t be afraid to actively engage with your counterparts in operations, learn their processes and what works for them. From personal experience, developers who are willing to gain a deep understanding of the operational processes and challenges are likely to have a fantastic career ahead of them.
