File name more than 255 chars error on screen

SA-27966

Summary

A Business Intelligence Exchange (BIX) extract fails to run, throwing the error indicating the filename exceeds the maximum size but the rule name and path do not exceed 255 characters limit.

Error Messages

"Could not Process: this file name entered exceeds the maximum size allowed(255 chars):/mydir/extractContent"

Steps to Reproduce

Run extraction from the dev portal and give the XML Schema Directory as /mydir/extractContent.

Root Cause

A defect or configuration issue in the operating environment.

The error message is misleading.  For any File IO exception this error message is output.

The error message is corrected in future release.  In this case the issue is that the user running the application server and thus the user running the extraction does not have permissions to write to the directory.

Resolution

Make the following change to the operating environment:

Update the permissions on the directory so that the user running the extraction can write to this directory.
