Invalid JVM option during upgrade

Summary



Developer notices that the command line install log reports an error and upgrade fails: Unrecognized VM option 'MaxMetaspaceSize=512m'

Error Messages



[echo] JVM Arguments DDTEST -XX:MaxHeapSize=2560m -XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=512m -Djava.security.egd=file:///dev/urandom
[java] Unrecognized VM option 'MaxMetaspaceSize=512m'
[java] Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
[java] Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

BUILD FAILED
/x/web/install_scripts/scripts/setupDatabase.xml:469: The following error occurred while executing this line:
/x/web/install_scripts/scripts/setupDatabase.xml:2358: Java returned: 1


Steps to Reproduce



Perform Pega 7.2.2 update.


Root Cause



An issue in the custom application code or rules: The MaxMetaspaceSize JVM option is not valid on Java 7 - it is introduced with Java 8.

Resolution



Perform the following local-change: remove the invalid JVM option.
