Upgrade on z/OS hangs during scanning classes

Summary



Upgrading from PRPC 6.2 SP2 to Pega 7.1.7 on z/OS hangs and does not progress during scanning of classes.


Error Messages



Upgrade hangs at this point:

     [java] 2016-07-05 22:12:52,060 [        your_host] [  STANDARD] [                    ] (ternal.util.RuleScannerUtility) INFO    - ========================================
     [java] 2016-07-05 22:12:52,060 [        your_host] [  STANDARD] [                    ] (ternal.util.RuleScannerUtility) INFO    - Scanning  and class Rule-Obj-ListView


Steps to Reproduce



Upgrade Pega.


Root Cause



A defect in Pegasystems’ code or rules.  This issue has been seen when upgrading on certain versions of Unix and Java 7.  Same code works fine when upgrading on different versions.

Resolution



Perform the following local-change:

​Modify the upgrade script to skip the "Upgrade Java Syntax" task to bypass this issue and resume the upgrade.
