Career Objectives

To have my own Pega practice at some point in the future

Let’s start off by learning a bit more about your life prior to Pega. Where are you from originally and what is your educational background?
I started working with Pega software back in 2012 when I was living in my home country, El Salvador. El Salvador was not a place where many people knew about Pega. I was the most senior member of a company that was looking to train resources in Pega and I was given the task to learn Pega, get certified, and train other resources that would become billable into a U.S project working from a near-shore development center.

What motivated you to learn how to use Pega?
I was working IBM BPM and middleware technologies back then, but my frustration with the number of different tools, proprietary programming languages and siloed processes grew as I kept gaining experience in these technologies. When I heard about Pega, I jumped right into it. It engaged me from Day 1 and it continues to do so after 7 years of experience.

"While starting to work in the platform and after earning my first certifications, I started getting calls from so many companies from around the world. I remember riding on a packed bus in El Salvador going home and receiving and answering emails from Sydney, London, Amsterdam."

What motivated you to learn how to use Pega?
Pega changed my life in every way. Instantly it provided me with a profile that was appealing to many high-profile companies. While starting to work in the platform and after earning my first certifications, I started getting calls from so many companies from around the world. I remember riding on a packed bus in El Salvador going home and receiving and answering emails from Sydney, London, Amsterdam.

What is your greatest accomplishment as a Pega developer?
After 3.5 years of working in Pega, I gained the Pega CLSA certification. That has been the greatest feeling I have had professionally. Up to date, I have passed 13 Pega certifications and look forward to keep learning more. By becoming an CLSA, even more doors opened and opportunities to deliver great value and accomplish great things came to me.

What message or advice would you give to anyone who is considering a career as a Pega developer?
Just jump into the technology and embrace it. Pega has been great for everyone I know who has taken the time to really learn the platform. You will not be the exception!
