Career Objectives

Earning new certifications so that I can continue to improve my skills as a Technical Lead

Let’s start off by learning a bit more about your life prior to Pega. Where are you from originally and what is your educational background?
I started my career as a Java developer back in 2000 and became a technical lead in 2006 working in design, development and deployment of large enterprise applications for Fortune 500 clients. A few of my colleagues introduced me to Pega back in 2006. I was very excited to learn about Pega BPM and BRE and all of its capabilities all in one platform. I felt like a kid in a candy store and this motivated me to explore all the aspects of Pega and its different frameworks.

How has Pega shaped or impacted your career?
Pega has had a huge impact on my career, fast forward 12 years later and I’m now working at Express Scripts as an IT Architect Lead with Pega CSSA certification. Since Pega releases new versions every 3 to 6 months to keep up with market demand, this challenges and motivates me to continuously learn newer versions and achieve certifications to keep myself updated on the platform.

"I’m always amazed how quickly I can build a prototype or an MVP to showcase to my leadership team so that they can evaluate an application and give quick feedback."

What are your favorite features of the Pega platform?
Since I have Java and JEE programming skills, I really appreciate the “all-in-one” aspect of the Pega platform.  I’m always amazed how quickly I can build a prototype or an MVP to showcase to my leadership team so that they can evaluate an application and give quick feedback.

As a Pega developer, what accomplishment are you most proud of?
Being featured at PegaWorld 2019 was very gratifying. Just getting the chance to see my photo on the big screen during the keynotes was something that I’ll never forget. Having that recognition from Pega inspires me to continue to take my career to the next level and has provided me with valuable exposure within my organization.

What message or advice would you give to anyone who is considering a career as a Pega developer?
Keep yourself open to taking on new challenges as you continuously learn the platform and improve your skills. It might take a while to feel comfortable stepping outside of your comfort zone but the payoff in your career progression is worth all of the time and energy.
